Collection: Spoon Lures and Weedless Jig Lures

Spoons and weedless jigs — the snag-free half of the box

Two lure families that do the jobs soft plastics cannot: metal spoons that cast into wind and fish deep, and weedless jigs and chatterbaits that go through grass and wood without hanging up. Sixteen lures from 3 g to 122 g, covering trout and perch water as well as pike, bass and saltwater shore fishing.

Lure Weight Retrieve Targets
Spoon (gold/silver) 3–60 g steady, slow flutter, or lift-and-drop trout, perch, pike, walleye, bonito
Feathered spoon 7–60 g fast steady, then kill it bass, bluefish, sea bass
Chatterbait / bladed jig 7–21 g slow roll just above the weeds bass, pike, zander
Weedless skirted jig 7–28 g hop and drop through cover bass, pike, snakehead

Why spoons still work

A spoon is a piece of metal that flashes, wobbles and sinks — nothing to break, nothing to tune. Its advantage is distance: a 20–40 g spoon out-casts any hard bait of the same weight into wind, which is exactly what shore fishing in the Baltic, the North Sea or the Mediterranean needs. The classic mistake is retrieving too fast: most spoon bites come on the drop after a lift, so let it fall on a semi-tight line and watch for the line to tick.

Fishing weedless without losing fish

A weedless jig trades a little hook-up rate for the ability to fish where the fish actually live — inside the grass line, under lily pads, along sunken timber. Use a trailer that matches the skirt, hop it twice and let it settle, and set the hook hard on a tight line. On chatterbaids, the blade does the attracting; keep the retrieve slow enough that you can feel the blade thumping.

Frequently asked questions

Spoon or spinner for trout? Spoon in deeper, faster water; spinner in shallow streams. Both work, but a spoon holds depth better in current.

Do I need a swivel with a spoon? Yes. A spoon rotates on the retrieve and will twist monofilament within twenty casts.

Can weedless jigs be used in salt water? Yes — around rock and weed for sea bass and pollock, and they snag far less than a bare jig head.
